FAQ

What is letterpress printing?

Letterpress is a centuries old relief printing technique in which an inked, raised design is pressed into paper using a printing press. While I (Sarah) do all of the designing and printing, I couldn’t do any of it without the help of my beautiful antique print press, Maude.

Each piece of stationery is printed one at a time, with each piece of paper fed into the press by hand, and each colour printed separately. Letterpress printing is a slow process that requires meticulous attention to detail, but feeling the impression left behind where paper met press is always worth the wait, and gives your stationery a tactile finish that cannot be matched by modern digital printing.

How sustainable is letterpress printing?

It’s really important to me to run my studio in a sustainable way, so all of the materials that I use are carefully chosen for their quality and their sustainability. It’s absolutely possible to produce beautiful stationery and be mindful of the impact on our beautiful planet!

You can find more information on the Sustainability page.

I'm planning my wedding, how long will it take to design and print my stationery?

The Collection

The design process, from initial proofs to final approval typically takes 1-2 weeks, and this includes time for your feedback. Printing typically takes 2-4 weeks following approval of the final proof.

Bespoke Wedding

The fully custom nature of bespoke wedding stationery means it does take a little longer. I typically advise allowing 2-4 weeks for design, which allows time for getting the design just right before it hits the press. Again, printing typically takes 2-4 weeks following approval of the final proof.

All turnaround times are estimates as turnaround varies depending on how busy the studio is. If you’d like a more definite idea of current turnaround times before placing your order please get in touch.

Can you print my design?

I do undertake print-only work, so if you email me with the details I'm more than happy to take a look at your design and advise if it's suitable for letterpress printing.

Do you offer hot foil printing?

Yes I do! It’s a great way to print lighter colours (including white) on darker paper stock, which isn’t possible with letterpress.

Where can I buy you products?

You can order your wedding stationery over in The Collection area of my Shop. And you can buy my letterpress greeting cards right here.

I’m a retailer and I’d love to stock your work, do you offer wholesale?

Yes I do! You can view the current Sarah & Maude catalogue, and find more info, over on the Wholesale page. And if you have any questions, drop me an email at hello[@]sarahandmaude.com.

Do you offer workshops?

At the moment, sadly not. I'm hoping that will change as soon as my small tabletop press, Millie, is refurbished and ready for action! You can sign up to the mailing list for updates so you'll be first to know when workshops begin.

Can I use your images on my blog?

That would be lovely! Please, please remember to link back to the product page or homepage of the Sarah and Maude website. Thanks!
